Lilac & others

So Lilac is eating, not much but he is eating which is a good sign, he loves the gel the vet gave him and licks that till his tube is done. Still doing IV with potassium to help him out, he is not drinking much but as the vet said, we are giving him IV so he isn’t thirsty! He is a bit stronger, walking around a bit but still very quiet and no longer as dehydrated! I am still worried but seeing him eat and wanting to eat to me is a very good sign.

Coco is doing well with his medications, hot dogs do the trick to give our doggies pills and he certainly likes his hotdogs. Both him and Tarzan and eating and drinking well and recovering easily and nicely!

Kanit went to school with our volunteer teacher yesterday and they find her amazing, she did a great job with everyone she has met and was loved by all.

Vet’s tonight

Picked up Coco and Tarzan, the poor boys were a bit groggy but very happy to see me and gave kisses when I got them out of the pen. Coco has a skin rash near his ear so is on antibiotics for a few weeks to heal that, Tarzan had a spot but the vet said to put a bit of cream and being it wasn’t as bad as Coco, he doens’t have antibiotics for it. They both went for a nice short walk when they arrived at NARC and are now in bed. They will be crated for the next few days while recovering, short walks only so that they don’t bust their stitches. They were good and weren’t licking so no cones for now but will keep watch to see how it goes in the next few days. I also brought Lilac back, they gave me more meds for his IV and by mouth. He ate tonight, not much but it’s a start back in the right direction. He isn’t as active as he was becoming last week but baby steps. He is so small and I worry a lot about him!

Vetting tonight

I brought in Coco and Tarzan for their neuters and shots, will pick them up tomorrow after surgeries. Lilac came with me as I wanted him to be placed on IV which we weren’t able to do has his veins are too small. The vet’s will try again tomorrow when I come in, for now, he is still on IV under the skin to not only hydrate him but he had stopped eating today so wanted to make sure he got fluids due to give him strength. The vet also gave me two tubes of another type of fluid for him to ingest and so far so good, he’s gobbled down both although still won’t touch his food! Send your prayers for the little guy, he is a fighter but so small and young that even the vet wasn’t sure if he was going to make it! I know he is tough but his temperature hasn’t been normal since last Thursday, still at 32.5 tonight at the vet’s which is quite low especially for a puppy!

Things we Need

Another thing we could really use now that garbage day is every 2 weeks – YIPES, are garbage cans, large or commercial would help us very much. We are also looking for insulation, styrofoam and regular insulation! Or sheets of plywood would also help and we then could build our own garbage containers!

Update at the farm! Needs at NARC

We could still use plywood (even 2×2 peices are fine to build a base), 2×4’s (2′ long is good or longer), nails, wood screws, siding, shingles or anything else you have to help us build our dog houses this winter. We also need lots of styrofoam insulation and regular insulation. Regular insulation to finish the roof and styrofoam for under the mobile home to prevent the frost from rising and also tack onto the side walls to prevent heat loss. We also need styrofoam insulation, full sheets of plywood and commercial fencing for the new dog runs with and attached in and out home we are hoping to finish building by next spring! If you know of anyone wishing to donate their time to labor and help with these projects, also a need we have here at NARC! We are still working on finishing the soffits, job is started but still needs to be completed before we insulate! And of course, we still need people to finish the ceramic floors inside the mobile home – always a few projects on the go! We are closing between Christmas and New Years, would be the perfect time to do the entrace floor!

Lexi has left us last night, my three legged angel’s new family came to pick her up. They said it didn’t look like she has only 3 legs and they are right, she was running around the house like nothing happened!

Jonah has started another eye infection so he is back on drops a few times daily! Whicker’s allergic reaction to a wool shirt is healed and he is doing so much better, hair is growing on his back where it was raw and itchy due to the rash/allergic reaction. Daisy’s eyes aren’t as bad as when she arrived, she also had an allergic reaction before reaching us which we’ve fixed and she is looking great without red swollen eyes! Jonah and Magoo both got a groom early this week so both really look nice and Magoo smells very good after a much deserved bath lol!

My little Lilac, (our sick puppy) is getting better every day, he has strength now and is starting to walk around a bit more. He is still spoiled and had his doggy bed and warm blankets to snuggle into with the heater for more warmth. But he is a baby!

Vet’s tonight & update

Lexi went for her shots and to get her stitches removed, vet was happy with the way she has healed and gave us thumbs up to place her in her loving home, after an overnight stay to see how she reacts to her shots that is…

Puppies are doing well, my little Lilac who was my sick boy is doing well, still not 100% good but definitely better. He gets so excited when I come get him, he loves his bottle and is eating very well, even eating some on his own which is amazing. He certainly is stronger and loves to bite my nose, chin or fingers and he has a strong grip for that so hurts little bugger lol. A few volunteers have had the pleasure of having their chin bit or fingers so know what I am talking about. I am so happy that he is coming around, still on antibiotics and giving him lots of vitamins, etc… but really do thing he will pull through. the scabs on his head may take a while to heal though but that is fine as I will be keeping him for at least a month before posting him for adoption.

His 2 siblings are available and so is Kanit, our German Sheppard mixed puppy! Come and meet them, they are too precious not to see! We are opened this weekend from 1pm to 3pm but soon closing for the holidays season so make it quick!

Updates at NARC

I have been nursing Lilac all weekend, every hour giving him his bottle of watered down dog food with a mix of vitamins (sometimes oregano & coconut oil). By Sunday, he was walking around, jumping on the crate door when he saw me and looking for food each time I would pick him up so overall, a very good sign. He is eating an ounce every hour or so of my mixes and started eating his developmental formula puppy food by himself every so often. His temperature is staying normal, the antibiotics prescribed for him are doing their job and he is feeling much better. I will keep giving him my mixture all week so he gets big and strong.

Why Lilac? Lilac’s are gorgeous flowers but you never know how long they will last and they are also very fragile… That name came to me for him while I was at the vet’s and yes, I know he’s a boy but Lilac just fit him!

I will call the vet today and book Lexi’s stitching removal and shots, she is doing very well, other than her Kennel Cough she is ready to go to her forever home this week!

2 hours at the vet’s tonight

Yep, brought the 4 puppies and Finnigan at the vet’s for their shots and check-ups. One of the puppies is still not doing so well, he is eating and drinking but seems a bit weak so I decided to rush to the vet’s for antibiotics, check-up and to ensure we are doing the most we can to save his life. While there, brought the others for check-ups and shots too – better safe than sorry! He is feeling a bit better now, let’s cross our fingers that he pulls through. Such a small little guy, eye infection, skin infection, scabs on his head, was dehydrated and so skinny although with good feedings he has already gained and still eating his developmental formula with vitamins and fluids in it. Tonight, he is in a little doggy bed by himself with his own heater to keep him warm lol. His temperature went up from 33 yesterday to 38 tonight wich is normal so a very good sign! He had his first good solid poop, which is another very good sign – no parvo we hope! They all got their shots, I’ve also named them and this weekend the photographer is coming to take pictures so you will see their beautiful faces very soon! The other two boys are strong and seem quite healthy compared to their siblings. Tonight is the test, will their tiny little bodies accept their DA2PP boosters? I will be checking up on them regularly to ensure they don’t have a reaction but assuming the antibiotics I gave them will certainly help with that! Send your best wishes to the little ones.

Finnigan has had his rabies and DA2PP tonight so will be posted next week for adoption, he is a poodle mixed and very good doggy! Cheers all, talk with you tomorrow with other updates!

What an evening last night!

Last night, I took a drive to a pound and picked up 5 puppies, one who looks to be husky mixed, tan colored and super cute and the 4 other siblings are quite small, under a pound now and very young. They look to be Keeshond mixed, hard to say as they are so small. Two of them were quite emaciated, dehydrated and their temperature was really low, one pup’s temperature wouldn’t even register so we knew it probably wouldn’t last the hour! I syringe fed her with high quality vet supplement food and warm water to see if I could bring her back with lots of warmth, warm IV fluids, etc… The other was at 33.3 which is low, normal temperature for dogs is 38.5! But she was eating, drinking warm water and her temperature was coming up so it was a good sign. I set both of them up with heaters and warmth, warm fluids, watered down developmental veterinary food with vitamins. All night, I kept checking in on them and surely enough, we lost the little sick one approx 1 hours after picking her up. But, her siblings are doing well and were up and running around this morning. I already called the vet last night to book them in for a check-up tonight, and hopefully shots for the bigger husky one – think the others are under 6 weeks so probably can’t administer shots yet! Anyways, it was stressful but hopefully they will all be fine! I’ll keep you updated!

Lexi – update

Lexi is doing well, although she has a cold and is still on antibiotics but she is “tails wagging” and running around all over the house. Very excited when I get home and she started doing this funny howling thing when I decide not to go see her first – pretty funny! She still never barks, I haven’t heard her bark once since we’ve gotten her, pretty quiet girl although sometimes you may think I have a little mouse in the house… If she hears me talking to someone at the front door, she does these little noises like a little mouse!

I know I’ve been a “mother hen” not wanting to show her off to volunteers but you have to understand that she has had quite the ordeal and with this cold weather, don’t want her coughing to get worst or catch something else from the new dogs that arrived! So, don’t take it personally and maybe this weekend, if she is no longer coughing – you will see her little face!
