Vet’s tonight

Brought the 4 new puppies that arrived tonight at the vet’s for their DA2PP and check-ups before bringing them into NARC being that we have a parvo puppy at the rescue! They are adorable, now for their dewormers and multi-advantage! I also picked up Baldwin, our Dogo Argentino after his neuter, he was quite funny and still very groggy when I got him, he was walking like a drunk from side to side so I had to watch him and help him in the truck. Of course, he pooped a huge cow pattie in the car on the way home, too groggy to realize he wasn’t outside!!! I’ll forgive him this time lol. His neuter went well and the vet gave us thumbs up so he can be placed for adoption!

Vet’s tonight

I dropped off Baldwin at the vet’s for his neuter and shots which will be done tomorrow morning. Brought Lilac and he got his 2nd DA2PP boster and the vet was really pleased with his plumpness and activity level. He has thumbs up so can now find a home. We also did a skin scraping on what we thought were cigarette burns on his forehead just in case it does come up positive for something else but no… tests came back negative for parasites so guess we were right with the diagnostic. They are healing and scabs have fallen so now he just needs to grow hair on those 3 spots on top of his head – he is too cute though!

Update at the farm!

Wishing everyone a very merry christmas, we will blog soon to keep you posted even if we are closed – business as usual at the vet’s on Thurs & Fri! Thank you to everyone supporting or those that have supported NARC this year, without your donations, we wouldn’t be in such good hands such as we are now – you are AMAZING! Thanks to your canadian tire money, home depot gift cards, canned goods, cleaning products, rubber gloves, paper towel, tiles, money – we have a new roof, new tiled rooms, new bathing area and the list goes on with major surgeries done this year, etc… All the renovations and surgeries wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for all of your help – we can’t thank you enough! Enjoy your holidays and we’ll see or talk/blog with/for you soon.

Cyan is finally eating a bit, not as much as I would like him too but started eating canned goods on Friday so I am pleased. He is drinking a lot so I am adding vitamins to his water and also giving him puppy milk for strenght. He is lively though, wants attention and started to play a bit. Still not letting anyone deal with Cyan as he is shedding parvo for 4 weeks so we need to keep him secluded not to spread the disease!

Lilac is still living with me in my home, he was loose with us all weekend, he follows us everywhere and a few times fell asleep at my feet while I was baking cookies, pulled pork and such for our family diner on Sunday. He is playfull and will grab the bottom of our pants biting – such a cutie! He is doing so well, we are going for his second DA2PP this week, probably Thursday while I drop off Baldwin for his neuter and shots. His spots on his head are healing but very slowly. I am proud to say that he is 100% better!

Nooky is also doing well so am now letting him roam the house and he follows me everywhere, is playfull and funny! He is a bit shy with new volunteers, hides at the end of his crate when he sees new people but that will change now that the volunteers have the OK to manipulate him. He is so precious and so sweet, when he is ready for adoption, I know he will be placed quickly!

We are also babysitting a few client’s NARC doggies, which is nice seeing them again and gives their families a safe spot for their loved ones while they have to go out of town! Few are here now, few arriving today and few leaving boxing day!

Vet’s again last night

I dropped off Alice and Tila for the dental cleaning at the vet’s last night, will pick them up after work today. Lilac is getting better and better every day, I am so happy with the progress after such a long time of him being sick. Nooky is really doing well also, eating and drinking well, tail wagging when I come and see him and has quite the appetite! His brother Cyan is still a bit worrysome, still skinny and although he is home from the vet’s, I really wish he would eat more or anything for that matter. He is drinking a lot but not eating still so will talk with the vet tonight to see what I can do to help. Started with puppy milk which he is drinking so giving him something although I really would like to see him like his brother, eating and gaining daily! King is recovering well from his neuter so he will be posted for adoption although we are closed till Jan 5th, people can still see him up and ready!

Update with pups & others

Brought back King from the vet’s last night, his neuter went well so now he is in recovery for the week.

We also got a new big boy last night from a pound, a Dogue de Bordeaux, all white with some spots, really gorgeous creature, friendly and was really good in the car for the 4 hour ride back due to the storm. Volunteer driver said he just sat there and was very patient! We will name him Baldwin.

Cyan returned home from the vet’s, he still isn’t eating but hopefully that will change soon so he can gain the much deserved weight – he looks like a skelleton right now!

Nooky is eating and drinking very well, he has already gained weight so we are thinking he will be fine.

Lilac, well, he is just too adorable, this morning he not only came to greet me with his tail wagging but also flopped on his back to get a belly rub. I am so proud of him for getting through this, he fought so hard to stay alive!

All three were crying when I was leaving this morning, broke my heart! God I wish I was home with them full-time!

Happy news!

I was so happy this morning when I heard Lilac’s little bark to tell me that he was hungry, he just started having strength enough to bark but now, this morning, he was up and his tail was wagging when I came in to see him. He was up, waiting at the door and TAIL WAGGING! I am so pleased, he wasn’t moving much, had started drinking and eating but we had to have the food right there to his nose for him, he wouldn’t walk or move and now, up and tail waggin – so happy!

Nooky also surprised me last night, he hadn’t eaten since he arrived on Friday as he couldn’t smell well so I was force feeding him a bit… Last night, after the vet visit and dropping off King for his neuter. He ate his food and later wanted more so at a full can of Blue. This morning, I gave him another full can and he did a good job finishing it off. What a change, he is eating like a little piglet so will gain weight quickly, now drinking well on his own so I can stop with the fluids – probably tomorrow, will give him another 2 days of fluids to help him out.

Cyan, well he remains at the vet’s, went to see him last night and although he is doing well, he is still not eating yet. Hopefully, like his brother, he starts eating like a little pig today! When he returns, he has to be in quarantine for 4 weeks as he will still shed the disease so we can’t have him play with others and have to keep him separate at all times. That being said, I’ve told the volunteers not to manipulate the little one and that only I will be dealing and manipulating Cyan and Nooky for the month of quarantine! Better safe than sorry!

King is at the vet’s getting his neuter and shots today – that should calm him down a bit lol. He is quite the character and certainly has energy to spend!

We are low in canned goods, need Developmental Formula or any other canned puppy and dog food. Mostly puppy canned food as we usually use the canned foods to fatten up dogs or with sick puppies such as Cyan, Nooky and Lilac right now!

New updates – renos & doggies

Thanks to the Home Depot Gift Card Eleanor got us, we were able to purchase a new shower faucet package for the new grooming area. Jack came to install our bathtub and fix the pipes, install the faucet and now we are up and ready to bathe and clean larger items properly again! Thanks Jack for your hard work this weekend! Had ripped off the old broken tub in May and we had to use the bathroom tub, having to be on our knees to bathe, no more bending now! I washed a few large items last night, large plastic tubs, crate bottoms, it’s amazing to have this ability again – not having to bend down to do it!!

We could use a few kitchen cupboards to place at the top of the tub for shampoo storage so if anyone has a few cabinets, we will take them! I am re-arranging quite a few things, put up our large cabinet in the entrance, above the window so that too will give us more floor room as we were using it for towels on the floor before, now that it’s mounted, more space! Trying to get things off the floor to tile, make room and being that we are closing till Jan 5th, tile the main entrance so need everything out of there so I can start installing the plywood this weekend and get it ready!

Lilac is doing much better, gaining weight although he his still a little guy, he ate 4 times yesterday, like a little pig, drank by himself although not enough so is still on IV fluids. But, overall, I see great hope for the little guy, he barks now when he is hungry to let us know, barking – hadn’t heard that in a while from him lol. I fought for him but he fought for me too, he wouldn’t let go and wanted to live! Such a great thing to see – I am amazed as usually puppies die very quickly, this guy is amazing. Hoping Nooky does the same, so far so good, he fought with me all weekend, he seems to be a fighter too, not eating because his kennel cough is bad and he can’t smell with all the mucus coming out of his nose… When doggies can’t smell right, they won’t eat properly either! I am working with him too, now have two little sicklings to pamper! His antibiotics are kicking in so he should be able to sniff his food and start eating soon, he too is on IV fluids to keep him going and of course mommy’s bottled mixture of strenght and power lol.

Well, three little sickings when my little parvo Cyan returns from the vet’s tomorrow, will have to fatten him up as he is very skinny but still alive and thinking he will make it through – he is full of piss and vinegar, trying to eat his catheter so has a cone around his head! Overall, a very good weekend, not having lost any of our sickings – that is AMAZING! Especially considering their sibling died not even an hour after we took the two new boys!!

So, we will be not only busy with sick doggies but also very busy renovating NARC during the holidays, am hoping to give a fresh coat of paint, finish the tiles in the entrance, hopefully grooming area too – will see! One step at a time, still need help finishing the soffits – anyone interested in helping with this task? Would be nice to get that done so I can insulate the roof too!!

Doggy Update

Well, happy to report that Lilac barked at my daughter when she went in the bathroom this morning, a great sign that he was telling her “I WANT MY BREAKFAST!” and the first time I’ve heard him bark or have enough strength to walk around and bark in almost a week. Very exciting and hoping he doesn’t go back down again… Nooky was well this morning, antibiotics and metacam are helping him and when I went early this morning to give him some fluids, food and water and of course change his bedding – he was up and tail waggin! Very good news too considering he slept all day yesterday and was worrying me last night. I spent the night going to NARC and giving him fluids, guess my persistance paid off! Spit Fyre, well, she hasn’t changed and is an excited little barky girl, I am starting training today so in a few weeks time, she will be an angel and the perfect NARC doggy for he new family!

News at NARC

We have 3 puppies that arrived from the pound last night, 2 of which were siblings and we found out one of their siblings had just died of parvo that evening at the pound… The other we took in we are not quite sure of her breed, she looks like a husky but has way too small paws and body to be a husky and her ears are very big – she is quite cute though. We brought the three to the vet’s to test for Parvo, one of the sibling we named Cyan is still at the vet’s as he tested positive for Parvo, so will be on IV all weekend at the clinic. Send your prayers that he makes it poor little baby! His brother we named Nooky is at NARC, negative for Parvo for now so we gave him his DA2PP which will hopefully help him although he was put on antibiotics for Kennel Cough. I named the little funny looking girl Spit Fyre due to her funny and playfull personality! She also tested negative for Parvo so has had her DA2PP shot too, she is eating and drinking well which is great. Both at NARC are in quaranteen for now, won’t be posted for adoption until we get them seen by our vet again in a few weeks time and given them a second DA2PP shot. Although I don’t think Spit Fyre will get parvo, she is approx 3.5 months old and is quite healthy, I am worried about Kooby who is fighting his cough and quite skinny although fattening him up should be quite easy, he still has to get through the night in hopes that his fever drops, yes, he started a bit of fever at 40.5 – normal temperature for dogs is 38.5. Send your good thoughts, I’ll be going to NARC every hour even through the night to make sure he gets plenty of fluids!
