Lexi at vet’s last night

Went to the vet’s last night with Lexi for a follow up examination of her surgery and in hopes to give her rabies and DA2PP shots but she had a fever so we weren’t able to give her the shots. When I arrived, I set her down and she ran to everyone to say hello, the vet had a big smile on his face from seeing her so excited, tail wagging and up and running after only a few days. She is now on Clavamox since last night and we are to follow up on Dec 4th for her shots and remove her stitches. She certainly loves the hot dogs, with her pill in them – easiest way to pill a dog – or cat!

Lexi – update

Lexi is doing very well, she comes out of her crate and follows me everywhere, wants attention and to be on our lap. She won’t do stairs yet as I won’t let her but by the end of the weekend I will be enticing her to practice stairs – under supervision – baby steps. Her balance is quite good considering! She is learning quickly and healing very well, she is young which helps a great deal! I’ve taken pictures of her surgery and will post them later for all of you to see. Few volunteers have come in to see her and she was happy to see them, tail wagging and going on her back for a belly rub while showing off her surgeries – little suck!

Lexi – early Day 2

Lexi is doing well, just before bedtime last night she ate half a can of puppy food which is an extremely good sign and made me very happy! This morning, she was not only waiting for me but calling with her little funny noises and was standing up when I came down to get her. Another good sign, standing on her 3 legs to practice so early after her surgery, she now needs to practice balancing without the other leg dangling there! Her strength is slowly coming back, I gave her the rest of the can of puppy food which she didn’t finish but surely it will be gone by the time I check up on her at lunch time! Will keep you updated on her progress!

Surgeries today

All went well with the surgeries at the vet’s today, Gage was a bit groggy but was happy to be home at NARC and rushed to get inside! Both cats are gone back with the foster family to rest for a few days while recovering.

Lexi had it rough today, had to be placed on IV fluids all day, the operation was hard on her tiny little body! Her blood stream kept dropping, she did loose a lot of blood during surgery which is expected so we have to keep a close eye on her for the next few days! Send your best wishes for her to get through this tonight without issues or complications. We do many major surgeries and most dogs do well during recovery but Lexi took it a bit harder than the others we’ve done this year!

At the vet’s tonight

I dropped off Lexi for her amputation, spay and shots. Also brought Gage for his neuter and shots and 2 cats for neuters and shots. Yes, I know we don’t take in cats here at NARC but we can certainly help out when we can and a volunteer is ready to take some from pounds so we had to put our nose into it lol. See the little kittens posted on our site, they too are up for adoption although not of proper age yet to be neutered/spayed! Donations accepted for kittens, we have a guinea pig and 2 rabbits who are also looking for homes and yes, we still accept canadian tire money for our critters but not our dogs as the vetting is more expensive for the doggies!

Roof is up! Great working weekend.

The volunteers started with installing the metal yesterday and finished today – it looks great. Next weekend we will install the soffits and get some insulation to finish our “raise the roof” project.

Things are looking up, new dog houses are coming in, Pierre is doing a great job with that and they look adorable! The tops lift up so we can easily clean inside. Can’t wait till next spring/summer to use them all Ha! Ha!

We cleaned out the sheds, took a truck load of old electronics and scrap metal off the farm. The guy said if we get more electronics, he will come this spring and donate money to NARC for all of it – making this a new fundraiser -bring us your old electronics (TV’s, Printers, etc…). Pass the word around, I know most people have an old printer or TV in the basement they don’t know what the hell to do with – old computer, radio, speakers… Name it – bring it – donate it!

The kids started decorating for christmas, the christmas tree is installed outside with lights and decorations – it looks good and next weekend we will install the christmas lights on the mobile home – should look extremely amazing when we are all done! I will post pictures shortly. Hope everyone checked out the “pictures at the farm” that we just started last week?

Eleanor and her friends gave us $300 gift cards at Home Depot which was to go for shingles but I asked them today if I could use it for the insulation and renos needed on the NARC home, need to insulate the bottom too – not just the roof! Also forgot to say that the week before, Priscille – our volunteer driver went door to door in her neighborhood with her neice to raise funds for NARC’s renovating projects, she raised $251.95. Great job girl, giving me an idea that I should go door to door here in Navan with my Daughter or a few volunteers. She took our NARC flyers and distributed them asking for donations, great idea!

On-going fundraising projects: “Empties for full tummies”, we are still taking in empty beer/wine/spritz bottles, cans as an on-going fundraiser for NARC. Holidays are coming, people will be drinking and hoping they bring us their empties. Make sure to share this with your family, friends, co-workers – get them to donate their empties to help NARC dogs!

Help with Lexi’s Amputation

Metal for roof & equipment arrived

Our metal sheets have arrived with the soffits and accessories needed to finish the roof, install soffits, etc… $2,115.76 for everything (40 metal sheets, roof pitch, soffits, L-Caps for 2×4 & to hold soffits on wall, screws with rubber lining specially made for metal sheet installation, delivery, metal cut to 9′ to fit our pitch…). A very good deal but now to find people to come and install it – for free!? We have a few volunteers coming this weekend, hoping they can finish it then otherwise we will need not only someone to continue or finish the job this week but funds to pay them! All the funds raised from the “raise the roof” campaign/walkathon are spent on trusses and materials already so we are needing more financial help to get this roof finished once and for all! We are at the last step, lacking some money for insulation which is at a cost of $1,200 with taxes. And if we can raise another $1,000 on top of that, I am sure we would be able to find a few guys to finish installation and insulation! I will take pictures this weekend of the trusses now installed and guy starting on the metal sheet installation so you see what you have put your money into! We are accepting Home Depot gift cards, some clients are helping with this to help pay the insulation and screws/nails needed for the dog houses, can be Lowes or any other store that sells construction materials.

Thank you again to all that have helped with this project, I really don’t know what I would do without all of you out there supporting our wonderful rescue! NARC and I are spoiled, to have such great people surrounding us, volunteers who not only dedicate their spare time at NARC but take doggies/bunnies/animals home to foster, give some of their funds to help with renovations, projects, surgeries… I never thought that opening this rescue would actually expand my family – it has and I am not only proud but very happy to represent all of you for NARC!

Shingles or siding needed

If you have some shingles or siding, or even wood/construction screws or nails, we sure could use them right now!  A friend of ours is building us new dog houses with the top that lifts off for easy cleaning, he already brought us 3 of them and they look amazing.  We’ve provided him with 2×4’s, plywood, etc… to build them but are still lacking shingles or siding plus screws or nails.  If you can help – that would be great and next spring/summer, we will have all new dog houses for our pooches which will look AMAZING!  We will also take plywood, aspenite, 2×4’s in good condition so we can build more houses!  You can drop off your donations at 4388 Navan Road, Navan, Ontario, K4B 1H9 or call us, we may be able to find a volunteer to pick them up!

Affenpinscher – found as stray

Have you lost your dog?  If you have lost your black, female, silky terrier or affenpinscher, she is here at NARC.  She is a small breed and was found near Anderson Road.  Will need proof of ownership, in hopes of finding her owners shortly!
