Nice but muddy weekend!

It was quite a nice weekend, doggies wanted to stay outside longer, some even backing up when we were walking to the front door, others still cold and rushing us back in Ha! Ha! We only have 1 Brooklyn Puppy left and of course Cyan and Nooky who are still looking for homes. We also have one of our German Sheppard female puppies left although she will be staying with us a bit longer, she was the one who was rushed to the vet’s, we did blood work and IV fluids for over 48 hours. She is better, eating by herself and drinking, it was the food that didn’t do her well so we’ve put her on developmental formula and she is doing well with that brand. Has a bit of an eye infection but on medication for that too. So, overall a good weekend, the other 3 puppies have found good homes and Sephora was picked up by her family!

Toby is doing well, the photographer came to take pictures so I will upload them for you to see his eye surgeries… I have a follow up at the vet’s tonight for him but really think he will get thumbs up, he is taking his eye drops like a charm and doesn’t even try to scratch. He seems more goofy now that his eyes aren’t scratchy and he is more playfull so overall very good. He will find a very good home pretty quickly once ready for adoption, he is such a good dog!

The miniature horses are now at Ferme Proulx and I fell in love with the miniature Donkey they had Ha! Ha! Although, Patchez, my tiny guy who actually looks like a Unicorn with his blue eyes.. he was in love with the big horse and kept snuggling to him – too funny!

Update this week

Sorry for not updating you daily, we’ve had quite the week – busy as usual. We brought the female Sky Terrier mixed we named Diamond to the vet’s for her lump removal, it was a fat deposit but quite big, vet said nothing to worry about and he removed it completely! Koby had to be neutered but I also wanted them to check his eyes, it wasn’t an infection but something was going on there and he always seemed to have his eyes half closed and watery! Needless to say, he has undergone major surgery, his lashes were growing into his eyes so they operated and although I am sure he is in pain right now, he will feel much better once it is healed. He also had his neuter and shots so will be ready in a few weeks time, once his eyes are fully recovered and stitches removed. We have to go back with both of them for re-check, Monday for Koby and again on April 15th if the stitches don’t disolve and Diamond is re-booked for a follow-up on April 15th to see how she is healing.

Last night, I had to bring one of the German Sheppard puppies to the vet’s to be placed on IV fluids. We often have to change foods at NARC, going with donations and she didn’t accept the new food, was vomitting so we rushed her to the vet’s. She is still there, not doing so well and still not eating! She is on antibiotics also, send your prayers, she is so small, we hope she makes it through.

We need financial help with all these surgeries, if you can spare a few dollars, either bring it to us or at Blackburn Animal Hospital to place on our account.

Also, our miniature horses will be leaving for the summer, going to the petting zoo at Ferme Proulx. The farrier is coming tomorrow morning for their regular hoof trim, we will have volunteers brush them as they are now shedding their winter hair and off they go so we can work on the barn. The ceiling in part of the barn collapsed this winter due to the heavy snow so having the miniatures somewhere else and giving us time to re-build was essential! If you have some 4×4’s to donate, we will need them to re-build the roof in the barn and of course metal sheets as roofing! Always things to fix up – at least we are almost done the NARC house, permanent 4×4 and 4×8 inside dog runs are being installed and in a month, when all the snow is gone, we will concentrate on fixing the barn…

Update at the farm!

We picked up two Sky Terriers on Sunday morning, a male and a female. They were quite matted and had fleas so we’ve given them the much deserved/needed groom so they are now cut short and of course multi-advantage to eliminate the fleas. Thanks to Andree Anne who had quite the job when grooming them! They are booked for their spay/neuter on Thursday, dropping them off Wednesday after work, female also needs a huge lump removed on her abdomen, seems like a cyst but almost as big as my fist! Doesn’t hurt her but really long and dragging so will have it removed. Then, I picked up a Husky Puppy at the pound last night, approx 3 months old, will bring on Wednesday for shots and check-up.

We have started the indoor kennels – so happy! I think Jody put pictures on our facebook so will get them and post them here under pictures at the farm so you can have a look. 3 permanent kennels are installed in the small room, we already put the 3 new doggies in them and so far, so good. The gates have been ordered and may not arrive for a few week’s time but we’ve broken down a crate and installed those parts as doors for now! Thanks to Vincent who worked hard in getting them installed and solid, he had to build a bulkhead as they were a bit lower than the ceiling but it looks great!

Now to grout the hallway and in front of the tub so our newly installed tiles don’t break!

Weekend and updates

We have been quite busy this weekend, had 4 little puppies arrive on Friday afternoon, few volunteers went to pick them up then gave them a much needed bath – they were quite filthy (black water in the tub) and had dirty underwear – litterally! OK, guess have to explain the whole storey… Seems that they were found on the side of the road in a box with a men’s pair of dirty underwear and when we got them, they came in that same box from the pound – YUK… Anyways, went to the vet’s right after work for their first shots and check-ups, temperatures were normal, healthy and now for dewormers and multi-advantage. They are approx 6 weeks old, german sheppard looking – nice thick hair, they look like little bears! 3 females and 1 male.

Then, saturday morning I went with my father to pick up our inside fence panels, that was exciting being that now we can start our inside kennel renovations. Counted 36 panels with posts and screws. When I got to NARC, the farm was full of clients, visitors, donors, volunteers and luckily we had tons of help to un-load and store them in the shed until we are ready to install. This week, I will be removing the inside fencing in the bay window area and replacing it with these new panels – what a difference it will make and certainly will look better!

Vincent also worked late almost every night last week and finished the hallway tiles, they look great and makes the house look longer and definitely cleaner compared to the brown stick-ons we had before! Now to grout that and each and every corner between the floor and walls which are aslo tiled up to 3 ft so that no water or pee can get into the cracks. This needs to be done before we can actually install the permanent inside dog runs!

Thank you everyone, volunteers, clients, friends, family for all of your help! You guys ROCK! As they say… “A best friend is like a four leaf clover: hard to find and lucky to have”. NARC and I are the most lucky, we have four leaf clovers (friends, clients, volunteers…) coming to visit and help all the time. The best extended family anyone can ever ask for or have! Sending you all kisses and hugs from myself and of course from all the doggies we have in rescue!

Flooring getting done!

We were all at NARC’s till late last night – midnight and Vincent was working hard on the flooring in the hallway. Most of it is done, plywood installed, half the hallway tiled already so it is looking good. He has tiled the front of the bathtub and it looks amazing, we are getting there! Saturday morning, I am picking up the fencing panels in hopes to getting those installed very soon! We also got two new doggies from the pound on Wednesday, a black lab we named Kobi and a golden retreiver/husky we named Nieva. Kobi was really shy when he arrived, he has a small puncture wound on his nose and besides his eye which we are treating, otherwise he is very sweet and friendly. Nieva was given a bath the moment she arrived and fit in right away, she was brushed as she had a lot of loose hair. Very sweet girl with everyone she has met.

Ladybug

Well, went to the vet’s to have the puppies seen and vaccinated for the 3rd time, they all received their DA2PP and Rabies. When I arrived, the vet was happy to announce that “our million dollar dog” as he said was eating and going home with us tonight. If you have funds to help with our veterinary invoices, please send them either by bringing them directly to Blackburn Animal Hospital or NARC. Just to help Ladybug, with all the tests we have done for her already – the cost was $1,300.00. That is not counting our 2 spays with shots this week and all the puppy check-ups and shots… We always need financial help for veterinary care and as you see from our blog, we are at the vet’s every single week, almost every day!

Vet’s again

I picked up Piper and Oreo last night, they are fine and other than being a bit tired, they are young and will recover quickly! I left Ladybug with them, she was placed on IV fluids again and another full blood panel taken, not sure what else to do at this point, will be doing a coccidia/giardia test also and hope that the vet finally finds something so we can help her!

Vincent came and helped with renovations last night, he pulled the old flooring out from the hallway and bathing area and installed the plywood, ready for tilling. Seems like all of the flooring will be done before summer after all! This is great timing being that I am picking up the fence panels this saturday in hopes to start installing them very shortly – first, have to figure out each room and what I will be building in them!

Tonight, at the vet’s again with the 6 remainder puppies from Sephora and Brooklyn’s litters and see how Ladybug is doing!

Vet’s this week

I dropped off Oreo and Piper for their spays and shots last night, this morning I called the vet to let him know that I am worried about Ladybug and want to bring her for a few days on IV again tonight. She is still not eating, she was fine this weekend and wasn’t vomitting any longer but last night she was sick again so want to see if there are any more tests we can do for her. We already did blood work and fecal tests which came out as being a food disorder but… wondering if it is something worst being that she turns her nose to everything, even hot dogs. I usually get them with the hot dogs but not her, she gags even to the smell of food!!

Tomorrow, we are back at the vet’s with the 6 puppies that are left from Sephora and Brooklyn’s litter for their last DA2PP.

On-line auctions

Many of you have noticed that we did a few on-line auctions through Facebook the last few months. And yes, as per requests, we will figure out a way to hold the next auction on our website, end of April. We are also accepting donations for the upcoming auction. The Valentine’s day auction has raised $278.00 which was used for veterinary care. The auction that closed last week raised $1,721.00 which is slowly being collected. So far, 1,000.00 has been collected this weekend and, as they say, in one pocket, out the other as I have already spent it this morning on inside run material. Had a great deal for 32 4×8 wire mesh panels and posts so I drove the hour this morning to the warehouse and bought the lot. The balance, once collected will be used for vet care, paying our weekly veterinary invoices. No more crates will be happening sooner than later, yipee! I will be going next sat morning with my father’s truck to pick up the panels and bring them home. Can’t wait to start installing them and removing all the crates, also giving our babies nice large runs to play in! Thank you everyone for either your donations to help make this happen and of course to the big spenders who helped by raising funds. We wouldn’t have our mesh material if it is wasn’t for all of your help, and of course our wonderful volunteers who have worked hard on this for NARC. Big thank you hugs and kisses from all of our babies!!

Ladybug

Just when I arrived at the vets to pick up Ladybug, she had an accident and our vet finally saw the yucky bloody flu, although it had stunk up the whole clinic, poor them! So, we proceeded with more tests, blood work to eliminate other symptoms. But, all came back as the change of food. He still sent her home after a day on IV fluids, no food for tonight and starting with gastrointestinal food tomorrow, bit at a time. She is also on a few medications, metrodonizale being one of them! She drank a lot tonight which is good, tail always wagging when I come see her, such a good and sweet dog. She will be with us until she feels better, then get her spay and shots in hopefully a few weeks time? In hopes that she is a bit stronger by Sunday, would really love to give her a good bath but she has already been through so much that it can wait a bit longer.

Lucky and Taffy have recovered from their surgeries very well so are now ready for adoption. Think both will find homes pretty quickly, they are amazing!

Tomorrow, back to the vet’s for a follow up with Coco for a lump on his side, although it is getting better and already half size from when it came out!
