Vet’s tonight

Picked up Nick from the vet’s, they changed his ear drops as the ones we had weren’t doing the trick!  He is doing well and will be going to his home tomorrow.  Had to bring the 6 puppies at the vet’s with me at 6:30pm, Kienna’s puppies as something was definitely wrong – we lost 2 in a matter of hours today…  Nothing seemed wrong with them, gaining a lot of weight daily and drinking very well from mom, their temperatures were normal and all the signs of being healthy pups were there.  The vet said the same thing but thinks they have hypoglycemia.  He gave them caloric boosters to take a few times daily, said we could loose a puppy pretty quickly if mom is not providing enough vitamins in her milk – which seems to be the case here.  We are also giving mom some to boost her immune system and help her through all of this, I imagine feeding 8 puppies is a hard job!  So, we are down to 6 little ones, quite sad when you think of it, they were fine one moment and the next moment – gone!  After a few times of giving them the booster, you could see a change in the puppies, more energetic and running around playing which made me very happy!

Updates this week!

The One Stop Shop raised $824 for NARC, we told Sophie to place the monies on our account at Blackburn Animal Hospital and the moment she does, we will bring Tiffany in for x-rays and hopefully find out what is wrong.  If it is kidney stones, then we will proceed with surgery and her spay at the same time.

We’ve received a trip for two on Paul’s Boat Line for our fundraiser on Sunday, few really gorgeous silver rings, YUK YUK passes, Haunted Walk, Stuffed Burgers & Pizza gave us a Free Large Pizza and 2 Litre Pop certificate and is also providing 6 large PIZZAs for our event!  We are also receiving 1 Adult and 1 Student pass from Music & Beyond shortly by mail.  Can’t wait to see all the gifts displayed on tables for all to see, it will be an amazing day!

P.S.  NO DOGS at the event on Sunday unfortunately, the city won’t allow them at this location.  Next time, we will have our event at a location that is doggy friendly, the city has already provided us with an address that doggies are allowed for our next event!

Nick is going to the vet’s tonight for his neuter and then lucky him found a home to go to after his neuter.  We are putting drops in his ear to help with his infection in hopes that it clears very soon!

One Stop Shop today!

We had a great time, great businesses were there and the tables looked awsome!  Few of the companies had donated items or gift baskets which were either auctionned off or a ticket sale was done to win them.  The shops had 450 bone tickets to sell for a “surprise” gift and that seemed to go very well also.  NARC’s table had a draw for 2 doggy gift bakets, a Danielle Steele 4 movie set and a cheese/butter knife kit.  Overall, our table raised $209.00.  But, an employee of Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP had asked for their Jeans Day donation go to NARC, they raised $474.00 which we were presented with upon arrival.  Thanks guys, that is amazing and we surely will be using it this week for vetting.  We don’t know how much the One Stop Shop raised yet, Sophie should be getting back to us to see how much the bake sale, bone ticket sale and gift basket auction raised.  We asked her to place the money on our account at Blackburn Animal Hospital to pay for this week’s surgeries and of course x-rays and tests for Tiffany!  Thank you everyone who stopped by, donated and chatted with us!  Although it was a rainy day, it was a lot of fun.  We saw quite a few NARC clients, one dated back from 5 years ago, they had adopted Marley (now Molly) who they say is doing great! Corona our hockey puck fundraising dog came for a visit too which was quite nice, overall a GREAT day!  I will post pictures of the event soon!

8th Year Today???

The years go by so quickly, can you believe we are already starting our 8th year of business today! For those of you who have known us for years, even just a year, you have probably seen tons of changes every time you came to visit. We’re always renovating, adding dog runs, fixing buildings, adding shrubs and flowers, building a garbage container, pergolas for shade for our doggies, tiling a room, tiling another room, painting, etc… Those of you who were with me when NARC started know this begun in my living room, few dogs to start with and went up from there with a constant flow of in and out babies coming through our doors. At the time, we didn’t even have 1 dog run, I would open the door and let all the dogs run loose at the farm… training them to stay on the property and by my side. Things have certainly changed many times over during the years.  NARC has grown, is still growing and this – because of your help and LOVE. Love is what brought us all together and love is what will keep us afloat for years to come, hopefully even after I depart this wonderful world. Yes, this is a big dream but… NARC also started as “JUST A DREAM”, those who know me think I am definitely a big dreamer and that I would like this, and that, a new building hopefully coming this summer… Things always come around, donors pitch in with items needed and we always manage to get what we want in the end. May take years, 7 in fact, but Rome wasn’t built in a day either! Our NARC family has grown, from many clients who visit regularly with donations or just for a pop in visit with cookies for the dogs or to show off their NARC adoptive family member… To the many volunteers who get down and dirty cleaning crates, bathing dogs, picking up poop outside, helping with vet appointments, picking up dogs at pounds, SPCA’s or Humane Societies and the multitude of things to do with having a rescue. Our wonderful staff has even pulled weeds and shrubs to maintain the dog runs and surrounding areas, picked up debris at the farm and done tons of renovations! I’ve seen ladies whom had never picked up a screw driver install drywall after the fire to help re-build NARC, people from out of town driving up and donating items we needed, major companies donating shingles, siding for our new building coming soon and the list goes on and on! We will always have a need – that is a given. Dogs need to eat, the vet bills don’t pay themselves, we always need poop bags, new volunteers, plywood and metal 2×4’s for our future building but we know, deep in our hearts that someone, somewhere will come through. Either they have an excess after a big job and wish to donate it instead of throwing it in the landfills – perfect for us we will take it in and have the property to do so! Bit by bit, we accumulate and now are almost ready to build our structure, only a few pieces of the puzzle left to get! I am not saying we didn’t have rough spots and that at times I almost threw in the towel but… after a few tears, hugs from clients or volunteers, we managed to stay strong and keep going on. The most dramatic was the fire, having to start back from scratch only 5 short years ago but here we are, head strong and moving on! The support we have is totally unbelievable, may not get millions a year such as huge companies but it makes us better, clients don’t become numbers, they are family and we, as a team will continue NARC with the same exceptional customer service you’ve always had and should be expecting! Yes that means hugs and kisses when you visit but I’m sure all of you have gotten used to that already Ha! Ha! Ha! Life is too short not to welcome each other and enjoy a nice hug, sometimes we actually need it and haven’t even realized! We all love to be loved and so does our rescues, so let’s get the party started for 2014-15, NARC’s 8th year of loving!

Demetria was found – few updates

Thank you to the Ottawa Police and Firemen who found Demetria and brought her back safely to her home – Great Job guys and we can’t thank you enough for saving this precious little girl!  Now her new Daddy has to definitely put that harness we gave him on Demetria so she can’t get away anymore…

Binou had his neuter and also a hernia removed, Marcel his neuter, Rabies and DA2PP were done.  Both are doing well and recovering at NARC.  Tomorrow is out big day, we are at the One Stop Shop in Rockland and have prepared a few gorgeous prizes to draw!  See you all there.

Few things!

Don’t forget to come and join us this Saturday, April 26th from 10am to 4pm at the “One Stop Shop” at the Jean-Marc Lalonde Arena, 1450 Du Park Ave in Rockland.

2014poster

Great clean up Easter weekend, we were burning what we took down from the old barn but then one of our young volunteer – Grey and his father took the rest home to hopefully re-use and re-build his barn – I love recycling so this was great!  Two full truck loads were hauled away, no longer have that pile in front of my garage YIPEE!  Also filled my SUV with the scrap metal, took it to BakerMet and got almost $40.  Another SUV full to bring once I have another day off in May…  All in all, we raked, removed the old straw from the dog houses, washed them and cleaned outside.  Always tons to do at this time of year, winter is always RUFF!  Thank you to all volunteers that helped with the clean-up, it’s not over yet but we’re getting there – still have the shed at the front of the property to attack, discard most of the items that were snow/rain abused and re-build that shed!  It will have to wait another few weekends as we are busy with the One Stop Shop this saturday and our Silent Auction next Sunday!

Demetria and the little Shih-Tzu in Navan are still on the loose, we haven’t been able to catch the shih-tzu since last Tuesday and now Demetria is lost in Orleans.  I really hope both are found soon – keep your eyes opened and if you spot any of the two, please let us know and we’ll send a volunteer to see if we can get them home!

LOST – Demetria

We were so happy for our beautiful Demetria over the weekend as she had found the perfect home but somehow got spooked, out of her collar and ran.  She is in the Orleans area near Avignon – Daubert – St Mark.  If you see her please call us and I will head out to get her, she is probably scared and in an area that is un-known to her right now – very scary!

Spotted – on Smith Road

A neighbour on Smith Road called to say they spotted the little Shih-Tzu on Smith Road so I left in search for it!  Last seen on the bike trail between Milton Road and 10th Line.  I parked on Milton Road and walked the whole trail to 10th Line, brought the other little girl we have here with me in case it is her friend in hopes she would come to her as she is scared of people.  The couple was very nice, looking for her too, walking the trail and driving around Smith Road (they also were parked on 10th Line so I got a ride back around to my car – thanks for that!).  I drove back slowly searching and went back, parked on 10th Line and walked the bike trail again with our little girl to leave some food still looking for the dog but it was so dark we turned around half way through.  Drove back and forth to see if I could spot it on the road but no luck.  So, had to put Finnigan’s groom aside to look for this little doggy that I haven’t once seen yet!  Supposedly it is black and white, earlier this week was seen on Navan Road with a yellow looking bandetta but today they weren’t sure if it still had a bandetta or not.  It is really scared of people so runs away when you try to come near so please call us if you see her/him and we will come with her little friend in hopes they find each other again!  Thank you guys for your call tonight, too bad we weren’t able to find her but if you spot the dog again, please let us know.  Will try to send a few volunteers tomorrow in hopes we can get her to NARC safely before either something eats her or she is smushed on the road by a car!  Keep up the good work NAVAN and passerbys – you guys are great with your stopping in and calling to inform us of this little stray doggy!
