Update at NARC

Well, guess I am not going to work in the flower beds tonight with this rain!!!  Thank you to everyone that brought perennials, planted 11 last night and still looking for more.  Huge property, if you have perennials you want to part with, we will take them at NARC.  Don’t mind the hard work, it’s good for the soul and muscles Ha! Ha! Ha!

We brought in a few new dogs last week and guess what?  One of them brought in lice, yuck.  I know they don’t live on humans or in the environment but I couldn’t help but feel itchy everywhere!  I have only seen lice twice in my 8 years at NARC, a rare parasite for sure…  So, that being said, we had to doze the whole house again, an expensive little surprise let me tell you.  Now we need more advantage, multi-advantage or revolution as we have to repeat the dose in 2 weeks time to ensure we kill the larvae.  Oh the joys of taking new dogs in…  Name of the game as they say!

Another crazy hard working week/weekend!

Well, we can finally rest a bit this week!  Monday we went to get the first dog kennel, loaded and brought it home, took out the old crates and installed the new kennel.  Sat morning we went to get the larger dog kennel, loaded and brought it home.  We took out the old crates and installed this one.  Sat afternoon we went to get the larger dog run, brought it home and installed it on Sunday.  Friday night, I chose new windows at Home Depot, love that store, brought those home and installed them on Sunday.  See below pictures of our volunteers hard work and dedication!  Even Klaus’ parents came to help install the large dog run and replace the doggy trap door.  Thanks to everyone who helped out – you guys ROCK!

We were invited to the Engines of Success 2014 at the LiveWorkPlay last night, a 4 course meal and got an award of recognition!  What an amazing event and such amazing people, over 100 volunteers now, 262 people showed up to support them last night and it was great!  Have a look at their website and spread the word, we need more companies out there such as this one.

Pictures

Voila, pictures of our new cage, looks amazing and also pictures of the hard work we did this weekend.  Took out the rotted bay window, looking for a large or 2 smaller windows that open to re-install there this weekend.  If you know of anyone giving away good solid windows, if they open from the top even better – let us know!  Going to the re-store sometime this week to see what they have and also buy a door for the shed and back door for NARC’s house.  If you wish to donate towards these items, you can always send us a cheque by mail:  NARC, 4388 Navan Road, Navan, Ontario, K4B 1H9 or drop it here at the rescue.  Looking to buy another caging system similar to this one but need the funds to do so.  Thanks everyone!

Tons done, more to do!

If anyone has a recent looking, large window do donate, opening from the top if possible please let us know and we will come and pick it up.  Ripped out the bay window in the modular home this weekend as it was falling apart and rotten, have 2 windows to replace but they don’t open so if we can find a third window, one that opens to let air in for our doggies on nice windy summer days!  That would be great.  I am re-framing this weekend and finishing it off, hoping to get an opening window by then!

Last night, we picked up the 5 place cage system I bought at PetCetera, cleared out the metal crates and replaced them with this unit.  It certainly looks great, did take a picture late last night, will post it soon!

We have many metal and plastic crates for sale, come see us weekends between 1pm and 3pm if you wish to buy one and raise funds for NARC.

Finally caught!

The first cage we had was too big for the little shih-tzu so she always got out, someone else lent us a smaller skunk size trap which we installed last night and VOILA!  We caught our little shih-tzu after 6 weeks of living wild in Navan.  She is now safe at NARC, although was scared is already bonding with volunteers.  Now for a good bath and taking those burs off her body!  Yes, she is a female and cute as a button, so happy she is alive and well, she surely has caused a lot of drama the last 6 weeks, we had been getting calls, people thinking we let her loose and roaming – she wasn`t ours but now definitely is!  Thanks everyone for your support in trying to get this little one, many of you have walked miles with me to try to catch her, etc… couldn`t have done this without everyone`s support!

Vets this week

Canelle went to the vet’s for her spay and dental cleaning, she had 11 teeth removed – poor baby!  She looked quite out of it when I picked her up but today she seems happy and alive!  Gypsy is on new ear medications, they are working great and she is doing a lot better, her infection is slowly decreasing.

Most of our puppies are leaving with their permanent families this weekend, we still have one left for adoption if you wish to meet with her this weekend, we are always opened sat and sun from 1pm to 3pm – no appointments necessary during business hours!

Still not caught! DO NOT CHASE!

Most of you are aware that when Bijoux was dropped off another shih-tzu was with her and ran from the lady that had them and off she went on Navan Road.  We have been looking for this dog ever since.  At one point, due to people stopping on the road and chasing it to try and catch it, the dog ended up relocated to Smith Road and 10th Line Road.  It has been 2 weeks now that it has been living in our font yard.  At least there I know it is getting food and water every day, it keeps running between our property  and my neighbours.   I didn’t blog it being that we DO NOT want anyone coming over trying to catch it and scare it to another location again where it may not be safe.  Someone lent us a dog trap but it is for larger dogs and way to big for this dog, we do trap it but it manages to get out from the bottom right corner by pushing it’s way out after eating.  Very smart little dog!  We need a smaller sized trap, shih-tzu size so we can finally get this dog in at NARC, so I can have the peace of mind that it is not running wild and may possibly get hit by a car… to also stop the driver by’s to try and catch it and run after it to scare the hell out of it again… or stop all the calls thinking it is one of our dogs loose on Navan Road…  YES, we know there is a dog loose and are trying our best to catch it – NO it is not a NARC dog but we surely will accept it as a NARC dog the moment we can find a trap that it can’t actually get out of!!  This little dog has been out there for over 5 weeks now, let’s find a small trap and get it into our home!

Vet’s tonight

I am leaving soon to drop off Canelle for her spay and dental cleaning, possibly extractions.  Gypsy is coming with me for a check up on her ear infection to see how she is coming along and hopefully new medications.  Also our beauty Sami is coming to get her/his nails and feathers clipped, usually something I do myself but being we are just in training, it is best if the “trainer” does not clip at the beginning.  See how good she/he is, letting me do pretty much anything I want, she/he is actually sleeping on my lap while I am giving her/him a body massage Ha! Ha! Ha!  Only got this bird Friday night!  She/he is pretty cool so the feather clipping is so that I can bring her/him outside with me while working at NARC on weekends, don’t like her/him being stuck inside alone all day and she needs to get used to different people!  Yeah, don’t know it’s sex, would have to DNA as the Goffin Cockatoo is one of the Cockatoo’s that you can’t tell by eyes or feathers!
