Yep, long weekend or not – some of our vet’s do open up for NARC doggies and we brought Chopin for his annual Rabies shot and check-up.  Amy our little Boston puppy for her check-up, DA2PP and Rabies vaccinations and Maze for another check-up.

Tomorrow evening, I am dropping off Juliette for her patella surgery and 2 others for spay & neuter including vaccines.  Will keep you posted on how Juliette’s surgery goes!

Nice long weekend

We started the weekend with having our sign installed on Saturday morning, a huge thank you to Dave from DJ Signs for the donated sign, stand, installation, hard work on a very hot morning!

The doggies were quite spoiled, spending most of the weekend outside either basking in the sun, lying in the shade, taking baths outside in the kiddy pool and walking with volunteers.  We had people here from 7:30am so they were able to enjoy the cool mornings and evenings with us!

We need more paper journal, rubber gloves, mops and more mops, few more pales would also help now that we are adding volunteers to our NARC family!  We are also almost out of canned food, dog or puppy!

Also, if you have or know of anyone getting rid of dog runs, we could always use a few more dog runs or fencing so we can build more dog runs, chains are also needed for when we tie out our doggies for a while to play outside.

We are still looking for a bigger building, metal would probably be easiest so if you know of any company donating such items or someone getting rid of one!

Update at vet’s

We picked up our three at the vet’s but also brought in quite a few for check-ups and follow ups such as Sheenah who stupidly banged her tail somewhere and had a bloody tail tip.  Now we know why usually they have the Dane’s tails cropped, they are so long and hard and once wagging like crazy, end up smacking something.  Nothing serious, we’ll put some cream on it, we’ve cleaned the tiny wound and she’s all set.

Bagle went for his last check-up and rabies shot and a bunch of others for check-ups, all in all over 20 dogs went to one of our vet’s for check-ups or follow-ups last night and today!  So, if I haven’t returned your e-mail or phone call – here is the reason!!!

Taz’s neuter went well, other than that he is quite healthy so will be posted for available this weekend.  Spooky is just too adorable, his cryptorchid neuter went also well and he had dental cleaning and extractions done which will help him.  He has a bit of the sniffles but that is to be expected once we play in their mouths!

Vet again this week

We dropped off Taz and Spooky at the vet’s for their neuter and shots this week, Prinston is at the vet’s for tests, blood work, poop sample, etc… as he is not feeling too well since he ate chocolate in a foster home.  Let’s hope we can find what is wrong and get him fixed up – poor little guy!

Rushed to the vet’s

The puppies we picked up over the weekend weren’t looking so good, they were eating on Sunday morning but by Monday morning, they weren’t eating or drinking and had diharea so we thought Parvo…  We rushed them to the vet’s and yep, tested positive for Parvo so were put on IV fluids with strong medications through IV, vitamin injections to hopefully help with what Parvo flushes out of them.  Cross your fingers that they make it, they are so young at 8 weeks of age that we are giving them 24 hours and if things don’t progress, they will have to be euthanized as we can’t have them suffer through the Parvo virus for a week!

New doggies have arrived!

I picked up 5 dogs from an SPCA this morning, a male Shih-Tzu puppy with a neurological disorder, he is so cute and sweet but does have a funny walk. He does come to you and is clean in his crate and in our home, just needs a special family who may want to carry him up and down the stairs. Not sure if he can do them himself but would be worried he would fall down and hurt himself due to his neurological disorder which makes his limbs not really follow his mind. You can’t not fall in love with the little guy! Another male Shih-poo, cute as a button, wait till you see the pictures, he is active, already got loose at the farm and came running to me to be picked up. He crosses his legs when I carry him around just like we’ve been doing this together for years, he really bonded quickly to me such as my little Neurological guy which I think I will be calling Neuro. We have a puppy boston mixed female, she is 4 months old, active and very loving, she is all black and so cute! A male schnauzer who seems to be very quiet, although he got excited when we got home and barked a bit, otherwise he remained quiet for the rest of the day. A male Chihuahua who looks identical to Skippy, very cute and friendly, got along well with the others today and seems to be doing well with us.

Then, I drove to Montreal after a day of NARC client visits and picked up 3 Cane Corsos, one who is ill and on IV right now so not sure if she will recover but the other 2 seem active, lively and healthy. They were certainly full of worms, I dewormed them with Strongid-T and will leave them in a small pen tomorrow so they can pass their worms without passing them to the other rescues!

Vet update

Poor Shanelle, she was sleeping when I came in and loaded Rikki, Bingo and Sadie in the car before actually getting her.  I opened the vet cage and she was still out cold until she got a sniff of who was opening the cage, she opened her little eyes and her tail started wagging, although she wasn’t moving much and started whinning a bit to show me she was in pain.  I felt so bad for her it’s incredible.  I brought her to the front passenger seat where I had prepared a blanket for her return home.  I was petting her all the way home while she cried a bit here and there – such a lovely dog.  She will be grateful in time, even though it must be painful right now, she will be able to run and play like a regular dog in a few weeks time.

Cocotte’s vet update

I brought Cocotte at the vet’s tonight to remove her pins that were installed to fix her lower broken jaw.  We’ve all decided, vets and I to leave the pins in her such as some humans have metal plates, etc…  This way, it is ensured that her jaw is set and stable for life.  That being said, we still had to sedate her a bit so we could remove the parts that were coming out under her jaw in hopes that in time skin will grow over what is left.  She is doing very well with her pins, eating well, playing, etc.. so why change a good thing!
