Vetting Tonight!

Marley, this is what we called the black lab that was tied to our porch and Germany are being dropped off at the vet’s tonight for their neuters, shots, check-up. Will keep you posted tomorrow on how it goes!

Being that we advertised in Kijiji, usedottawa, ottawa citizen, our blog, etc… and no one has claimed this beautiful black lab since Oct 24th. He will now be neutered, given shots and posted for adoption this week!

Chelsea new puppy arrived

Cute 4 month old Walker Hound mixed with Border Collie although she looks more like the walker hound. She needs some training which we are starting but overall a sweet dog, great with all the other dogs but sometimes shy with strangers. She will come around after a few days with us and be ready for adoption soon!

NARC – reference letter

Such a nice gesture and we appreciate all the help you are giving us. These are just a few of the letters people are sending us for those out there that may think the worst before actually coming to see for yourselves!!

All is well with Neuro

His neuter went well, he is going back with our volunteer at her house for recovery.  Vet did say that there could be a few more tests his new owners could run, they are not mandatory but could do an x-ray on his back and MRI to see if his neurological disorder can actually be rectified!  Originally other vets had sait it wouldn’t be something that could be fixed but our vet seems to think that there is a possibility although we would need to find a vet that does these specific back surgeries!

Lab tied at my porch last night

I am not sure what happened, if someone found him on the side of the road or was he no longer wanted? Not that it matters, he has found his niche with us and will be vetted and then find a good home through us if needed. But, it would be nice if we could get some information such as name, age for this beautiful labrador! You can send your anonymous e-mail through this blog if you don’t want to be known, not a problem! If you did find him as a stray, we would also need to know in order to be able to find his family! Right now, all we have is that a black lab was tied to my front porch, we were at the rescue when this happened so why not knock at the rescue?

Dogs at the vet’s

Our foster home met me at the vet’s to get Mr. Pickles, he had his dental cleaning with extractions, more antibiotics for his cough and neuter done.  The results will be here in a week to hopefully find out what is going on with our little guy.

Brought Venus back at the vet’s, seems like she is not accepting her stitches quite well and has formed a little lump on her belly.  They extracted the fluids and we are to do cold compresses for a wile until it goes down even further and put some polysporin to help out.  It is one stitch from the inside that hasn’t melted properly and she is reacting to it but should be fine in a week.

Vetting this week

Mr. Pickles was booked for his neuter, dental and throat swab.  He was dropped off by our foster home and will undergo his surgeries tomorrow and hopefully we will finally be able to see why he is still coughing after quite a few antibiotics, x-rays, etc…  We should get the swab analysis in the next week so will keep you posted!

How to Help! Trusses installed – YIPEE

We have had many calls, e-mails, posts on our website and more calls asking us how you can help with this case and court date coming in December.  Well, if you wish to write a letter expressing your feelings and what you thought and most of you still think of NARC – by all means.  We are sure if we get our clients to talk for us, it will help!  We already have our volunteers that have written up recommendation letters, our vet’s, regular visiting clients and foster homes have done so too.   We thank you so much for your on-going support, donations to “raise the roof” lately and yes, the trusses are installed so YOU DID “raise the roof”.

This is a rescue, yes, but anyone who has come here to visit or adopt sees and have seen that we know our dogs well and they have bonded with us.  Some of you have seen them get loose at times, go for a spin around the property but not run away – that alone says a lot… people say dogs can’t speak, well, they were found as strays yet don’t stray from NARC?  Don’t you think this is speaking out – quite loudly!

We are not perfect, no one is but we do give our best and if it wasn’t for us – your adopted NARC dog would have been euthanized!  Now, many are being euthanized every week being that we can’t pick them up due to all of this!  We need to stop this from happening and get back out there…

Another note, never feel shy in popping in, we are opened sat and sun between 1pm and 3pm so feel free to come and ask questions, talk with volunteers, spend time with our pooches.  Or even better, bring your own doggies for a nice walk on our property, we have nice trails in the bush.  Most of you that know us understand we always have an open door policy but just want to tell others out there that may not know us as well – we have an open door policy – use it!  Questions about training, need help with some vetting for your NARC dog?  We are here, some call upon us and we help as much as we can but sometimes we forget to mention it – even though it is on our website, we should say it more often – we can and will help – it is what we stand by!

Update on “Raise the Roof”

We are almost there!!!!  We have the trusses, paid and delivered… they should be installed this week and now we have enough money to pay installers and order the metal.  We’ll still need to raise some funds to cover the cost of insulation, soffits and gutters but then we’re done!

People came today that weren’t able to come to the walkathon yesterday and made their donations to “raise the roof”, another $600.00 given today with a grand total of $2,358.47 raised.  Thanks again to all the volunteers, clients and everyone that helped in either participating or signing/donating on our pledge forms.  You are AMAZING and because of you, our pooches and volunteers can keep going on strong, this will reduce our hydro bills drastically and keep us going for years to come…
