Vet’s last night

Beenie was a bit scared at the vet’s last night so a hookworm fell from her behind on the table during her check-up!  How that happened without pooing is a mystery but it saved us from having to do a poop sample!  Due to this, the vet prescribed Drontal for her and Bo and they also received their check-up, Rabies and DA2PP.  They will be ready for a loving home this weekend although we suggest another dose of Drontal or similar medications in 14 days.  They are both so sweet and loving, very calm for 3 months olds!  Tiffany’s two puppies went for their 2nd DA2PP and check-up, thumbs up for the girls again!  They weren’t ready for their rabies yet, only 10 weeks old so far!

Puppies, Puppies and more Puppies

We are going to the vet’s tonight with Bo the Golden Lab and Beenie the Black Field Lab for their 1st DA2PP and check-up tonight.  Also bringing the 2 girls we have left from Tiffany’s litter back for their second shots tonight.  Then we have Juno and Philomena going for their surgeries, dropping them off on Wednesday, Juno for his neuter and Philomena for her spay, rabies and DA2PP.  And saturday morning will be quite busy, bringing Abigail’s 4 puppies for their 1st DA2PP as they are turning 6 weeks and also bringing Isis’ 9 puppies for their 1st DA2PP.  Car will certainly be full of little ones – too cute but will be leaving us shortly after their shots.  Come and claim your puppy this weekend so that in 2 weeks time you have the one you want!

Puppies are already 5 weeks

Wow, they are growing fast!  Abigail’s puppies are already 5 weeks tomorrow, guess we have to go to the vet’s the following week (at 6 weeks) for their first DA2PP.  Isis’ 9 puppies are also same age so we’ll have 13 to bring to the vet’s shortly for shots, check-up, etc….  Definitely will need funds for this gang needing shots!  If you can help with a monetary donation, you can do so by sending a cheque to NARC, 4388 Navan Road, Navan, Ontario, K4B 1H9.  You can also pay through paypal or directly with our vet, Blackburn Animal Hospital who also accepts credit card payments.  Thank you everyone for your support!

Good news for Rex

Our big boy went to the vet’s last night to have his stitches removed, he did an exceptional job and sat there like a big boy while our vet removed every stitch.  He was given a thumbs up, no more follow up examinations, some massaging required to spread the water fluid that build up in one leg but normal enough.  No more pain medications or antibiotics so I dropped him off with his new family.  Yep, our foster home has decided to adopt Rex so he is now living with his new family – so happy for our boy.  He gave me a bit of a hard time and actually lost a kilogram in weight being he hadn’t eaten much the first few days after surgery but all ends well…  he certainly got his appetite back in the end and was running around in the fresh snow last night before heading to our vets.

Needs at NARC

We are in need of dog and puppy food.  Our dogs eat “Beneful” (beef or chicken) or “Pedigree Vitality +” and our puppies and lactating mothers are eating “IAMS for puppies, orange bag 1-24 months”.

We received and installed these new and fabulous crates and are hoping to eventually get these spacious housing for all the dogs at NARC, fitting in a bed for them.  So, that being said, we are looking to purchase kuranda beds for our doggies, those that wish to buy one as a donation can go to http://kuranda.com/donate, select Navan Animal Rescue and follow the steps.  The beds should be delivered directly to us!  Thank you again for your support with our multitude of changes throughout the years but as they say… Rome wasn’t built in a day and yes, we are constantly improving for the sake of our fur-babies.

We are fine! A bit of a scare but OK now.

For those who were with us last night, leaving before the firetrucks arrived or drove by wondering what was going on….  We had a pipe fire and the firemen took care of everything for us, my house is safe and so are we…  Poor Rex, had to walk from my house to the rescue to get him out of the house just in case!!!  He did well though and seemed to want to stay at NARC’s with the other doggies but that will not happen, brought him back once the smoke was gone.  He hasn’t eaten much since his surgery, lets hope his appetite comes back soon!  He also hadn’t peed the first few days after surgery but finally now peeing over 3 times a day!  He is walking better and slowly getting there!

Well, I am no longer using the furnace, it’s a bit cold in the house with only 2 small heaters going but too scared to even use the oil until a professional comes to check or change all the pipes!  New house, 1st winter heating with wood..  they make parts very cheap now for it to already cause panick!  15 years with 2 wood stoves in my older home and never once an issue!

Rex’s surgery

Poor baby, both his hind legs are stitched up completely, he didn’t want to get up when I picked him up last night but I forced him to walk a bit before heading home.  That is the first step, his therapy for the next few days is walking around,  moving his legs and using them so they don’t stiffen up.  For the next 10 days, he will be recovering and in therapy, no one will see or visit with Rex during recovery.  I know many of you would certainly love to come and see how he is doing, some more curious to see the surgeries (I will take pictures for you!) but…  He is a DOG and dogs get excited and may want to jump up to say hello which would damage his recovery drastically or may bust a few stitches!  As humans, we would only get one knee done at a time and stay in a hospital bed to recover.  He has had both hind legs done at the same time, so he needs time to heal and recover properly!

Rex’s surgery

It is time, we will be dropping Rex off at the vet’s tonight for his Patella surgery on both hind legs.  Wish him luck, it is definitely a painful surgery!  We haven’t raised all funds needed yet but there is still time to donate if you wish to help with Rex’s or any other of our doggies’ surgeries.  Thank you to those who have given towards Rex’s Patella surgery, we wouldn’t be able to do this without your help!

Vet’s this week!

I brought Morwenna and Faith for their spay, rabies, DA2PP and check-ups, they were done yesterday and are recovering very nicely.  Faith, our gorgeous golden labrador has a family that wishes to have her once she has recovered from her surgery so she will certainly be leaving us next week.  We also had to euthanize Cyan, he was becoming very agressive with strangers, especially teenagers and men.  So, for safety reasons, we, as a team at NARC decided it was best to let him go to doggy heaven.  We would have never been able to place him in society thinking he could and would bite at any given time!  It was a very hard decision, we argued and went back and forth as we rarely euthanize here at NARC, everyone was quite upset.  Farewell my boy, you stole all of our hearts, it is so unfortunate that you weren’t good with strangers such as you were with all of us!  I am sure you will be playing with my girl Piper up there in the clouds, running free and looking down upon us!  Yes, I’ve lost my beloved Piper yesterday, very dramatic and my heart is broken from Cyan and then having my own baby pass!!!  Sometimes life is so unfair…
